Serial killer. Those two words send chills down the spine and conjure up nightmarish images. Serial killers, unfortunately, seem to abound in society. They are more common than most people think. The names Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, John Wayne Gacy, the Zodiac, Jeffrey Dahmer, and many others are well known. But, there are more that one never hears about. Murderers that continue their killing sprees because the police for various and sundry reasons either do not realize that they have a serial killer on their hands, or many times are very reluctant to admit they have a murderer on the loose because of local 'political' reasons.....i.e. it can hurt the tourist and leisure activities trade if there is a killer on the hunt. When a murderer is on the prowl, and the public find out, fear spreads like wild fire. Sometimes you get 'copy cat' killers coming out of the wood work....making it that much harder on investigators trying to solve these cases.
