The Wisconsin serial killer
|
In the fall of 1967 Christine Rothschilde entered the University of Wisconsin with the dream of becoming a journalist upon graduation...by the spring of 1968 those dreams would come to an abrupt end. She became the first victim of this extremely elusive killer. In early May of 1968, a fellow student found her body shoved behind some shrubbery in front of one of the
student halls. She had been stabbed at least 12 times in the chest area. With no leads, her murder was put into the cold case files after about a month.
7 years passed, and most people had forgotten about the murder of the of the pretty girl with the blond-brown hair...until another body of a young woman turned up.
On July 21, 1976 the body of Debra Bennet was found horribly burned and badly decomposed....so bad that it was impossible to determine the cause of death. But, Debra had bore a resemblance to Christine Rothschilde. She had also lived about 14 miles from Madison and had attended the same college as Christine.
Another 2 years passed before another young college girl bearing a resemblance to the other two girls would turn up dead. The body of Julie Ann Hall was also found about 14 miles from Madison in a shallow grave. Her head had been beaten to a pulp. She also attended the same university as the previously murdered girls.
On March 27, 1979 Julie SpeerSchnider disappeared. She was still missing when in April of 1980 the body of of 24 year old Susan LeMahieu was found. She had died from multiple stab wounds to the chest area. Finally, in April of 1981 the skeletal remain of Julie SpeerShcnider were found. Coroner was unable to establish cause of death. # nonths later the body of 17 year old Shirley Stewart was found. She'd been missing since Jan. 1980. Again, due to sever decomposition the coroner was unable to cause of death.
In July of 1982, Donna Mraz was stabbed repeatedly on the campus behind the football stadium.
The final victim of this incredibly elusive killer was found on Nov. 7 of 1984. She was 20-year-old Janet M. Raasch. She too had been a University of Wisconsin student...just like all the others. Just like all the others she had had blond-brown hair and was quite attractive. Here body also was so badly decomposed that determining cause of death was impossible.
Then, as suddenly as they had started, they stopped. No reasons as to why. All cases remain open.
