Fox Atomic delivered with its "28 Days Later sequel". There, that's my opinion...
Six months after the virus swept through the British Isles, the plague is reignited through a carrier immuned to the plague, who transmits it to the character of Don (Robert Carlyle) to get the infection rolling again. What follows is pretty much a story of survival and containment, with extremely intense sequences. I won't spoil it for anyone, but I am sure that you will agree: "28 Days Later" delievered on intensity... and "28 Weeks Later" steps it up a notch. This zombie movie is REALLY intense and the zombies look faster and meaner than they did in the first movie. There is almost more gore, more running... and more of "them".
If I had a criticism, it would be in terms of scenario. I don't care that a proper explanation did not shed light on the immunity gene: that was not the purpose of the film. But where the movie lacked in terms of explanation is why father Don essentially stalks his children after turning into a zombie, and why he seems to have retained some sort of consciousness. I love Robert Carlyle, but the character he had to play was so-so. I didn't make sense to me that every fast-running zombie in the film was acting like a proper zombie, nibbling and killing any survivor they can put their dirty paws on; but his character, for some reason, seems to bent on killing his children, instead of running with the pack. And he is a pretty good stalker too. So I thought that was a bit odd, didn't make sense, and if I had a criticism, that would be it.
That said, overall, I thought it was a good movie. And I am sure they have another sequel in the works, and that would make a neat little trilogy: 28 Days Later, 28 Week Later and... 28 Months Later.
"28 Weeks Later" is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and stars Don (Robert Carlyle), Rose Byrne (Scarlet), Jeremy Renner (Sgt. Doyle), Harold Perrineau (Flynn), Catherine McCormack (Alice), Mackintosh Muggleton (Andy), Idris Elba (General Stone) and Imogen Poots (Tammy).
