Legends of the Dark and Bloody Ground Pt.1
|
The state I live in is a haunted place...even the name Kentucky is derived from the basic Shawnee and Cherokee languages...though all the tribes that lived in the surrounding lands that would eventually become Ohio, Virginia, West Virgina, Tennessee, and Missouri...called it by the same name in their own dialects. Can-tuck, or Can-tuck-kee....the Dark and Bloody Ground.
None of the Native American tribes lived here....though they would hunt, and gather of the vast bounty this beautiful, but dark land offered. This was the sacred dark land of the spirits and the dwelling of supernatural creatures.
In the next several posts, I will tell of the various legends surrounding this area, and of accounts related by the many people my husband and I have known through out the years. And, tell of some of our own experiences. You can judge whether or not you believe any of the tales....as for my hubby and myself....we believe the legends are true.
