"Turistas" Brazil Controversy
|
"Turistas" is opening in Brazil February 14 under a shred of controversy over the "the movie's supposedly xenophobic argument" that tourists should beware "psychotic doctors willing to do what it takes to kidnap young travelers and remove their organs for sale on the black market". I think most people know for a fact that fiction is just that, fiction. But wait, what fuelled the controversy is screenwriter Michael Ross's statement that the screenplay was based on "true facts". Well, thats just silly... We know there is a live organ market in all regions of the world, there is certainly sufficient misery to sustain one, so true facts... meh, lacks originality.
Anyhow, Embratur, the Brazilian Tourism Institute, is concerned and monitoring the international audience reaction to the movie. I haven't seen it, but I guess its not worth all that fuss.
